Grants and Events Officer

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self- motivated candidate with excellent communication and the ability to connect and communicate with a wide range of audiences to join the Events and Grants team.


Salary: £28,000 – £31,000 + excellent benefits
Location: London
Hours: Full-time
Contract: Permanent

The BES is a thriving learned society established in 1913 whose vision is a world inspired, informed and influenced by ecology. It publishes six successful journals, an ecological book series and a quarterly newsletter, the Bulletin, which is distributed to its 5,000 members worldwide.

The successful candidate will administer and develop the Society’s grant portfolio; support the Events Manager with event organisation and support the Membership Team as required, have experience updating websites and a professional knowledge of social media.

Core duties will include but not limited to:

  • Working closely with the Events Manager, manage and deliver specific society events, including symposia and ad hoc events
  • Answer general events correspondence and provide onsite assistance at events
  • Support other members of the Membership Team when needed and appropriate
  • Administer and develop the Society’s grant portfolio
  • Evaluate and monitor success of grants portfolio, providing and implementing recommendations where appropriate
  • Support the Grants Committee with minute taking, budget setting and assist in strategic development
  • Work with Communications Manager in marketing of grants
  • Prepare social media content and digital promotion for events, grants and photographic competition
