About you

We are looking for a Practitioner Editor to build the journal’s network of ecological practitioners and managers in its authorship, readership, and Editorial Board.

The ideal candidate will be an active practitioner who also has a solid understanding of research and academic publishing. You will have a strong network of contacts, be used to attending professional events and possess good influencing skills. You may also hold a part-time or honorary role in an academic institution.

 

About the role

Ecological Solutions and Evidence welcomes submissions from practitioner authors, as well as academics, and offers them dedicated article types, such as Practice Insights, Data Articles, and Practical Tools. We are recruiting for Practitioner Editor to help bolster submissions by practitioners to the journal so that 25% of all articles are published by practitioners.

The Practitioner Editor will be responsible for:

  • Working with the journal editorial team to identify relevant and international topics and authors for the journal.
  • Approaching practitioners and those who work with practitioners, especially those from global networks underrepresented in academic journals, and invite them to publish their work in the journal.
  • Promoting the journal within their own networks and at professional events.
  • Providing additional pre-submission guidance to authors as required.
  • Helping to recruit Associate editors to the journal’s Editorial Board.
  • Contributing to monthly Senior Editor meetings and provide insight for strategic development.
  • Ensuring that instructions to authors are relevant to journal’s target audience.
  • Occasionally acting as Handling Editor for relevant articles.
  • Joining the Advisory Board of Applied Ecology Resources and identify opportunities to better align AER with Ecological Solutions and Evidence.

 

The role is for an initial term of 1 year and paid a remuneration of £2,000 p.a.
