Bridlington to Reighton Sands, North and East Yorkshire National Vegetation Classification Survey Report 2021: National Vegetation Classification (NVC) by Haycock and Jay Associated Ltd.
Abstract
This report outlines a National Vegetation Classification (NVC) survey of the habitats along the coast from Reighton Gap to Sewerby, including Flamborough Head. It examines the complex environmental factors shaping grassland and maritime vegetation communities, such as geology, soil types, exposure to salt spray, drainage, seabird activity, and erosion patterns. The survey highlights the distinct ecological differences between the northern and southern aspects of Flamborough Head, where variations in maritime exposure, cliff type, and vegetation dynamics create unique plant communities. It also identifies key areas of interest, such as perched soft cliffs, sub-maritime grasslands, and woodland, with potential significance for local wildlife, including thermophilous invertebrates.
