BES Macro 2021
Join the Macroecology SIG for their annual meeting of macroecology and macroevolution.
BES Macro 2021 is the annual meeting of the BES macroecology and macroevolution SIG. Each year we aim to highlight all kinds of macro-scale research, across diverse taxa, timescales, and career stages. This year for the first time the meeting will run online, across three days at a different time slot each day to facilitate attendance across different time zones as follows:
- Monday 5 July 08:00-11:00 BST (British Summer Time, GMT +1)
- Tuesday 6 July 17:00-20:00 BST
- Wednesday 7 July 11:00 – 14:00 BST
We will also have a Slack channel for discussion, questions and coffee breaks during the meeting!
Whatever your speciality and career-stage, we hope you’ll join us for three days of macro-fun! Details of the conference are below, or feel free to contact us on Facebook or Twitter (@BESMacroecol) with any questions.
PLENARY SPEAKERS
Our plenary speakers are all breaking new ground and developing new fields of research in macroecology and macroevolution. We will emphasise the exciting work being done by scientists at early career stages, and from both near and far. Our confirmed speakers are:
- Jessica Ware (AMNH, New York, USA). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jessica_Ware
- Signe Normand (Aarhus University, Denmark). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signe_Normand
In addition, and as is tradition, there will be a student plenary speaker chosen from the attendees. PhD students: please opt in to be selected for this! It is a great opportunity to broadcast your research in greater detail to the macro community! We will choose the student plenary based on their abstracts in a double-blind review process undertaken by the MacroSIG committee. We highly recommend applying; it’s fun and a great thing to put on your CV. You’ll be asked for an abstract and a short biography if you choose this option when you register.
TALKS AND POSTERS
We will have slots for talks and space for virtual posters at the meeting. Talks will be 5 minutes long. There may not be enough talk slots for everyone, so priority will be given to early career researchers (ECRs). You will need to submit a title and choose which day/time slot you would prefer. Talks can be pre-recorded or given live as you prefer. Abstracts can be submitted when you register.
We will set up a shared document where poster presenters can share a link to their poster (or video or whatever format they choose) and a time and meeting link where they will be available for discussion at certain times during the meeting.
Registration and abstract submission ends midnight BST (GMT+1) 15 May 2021. We will contact attendees after this to confirm talk slots.
REGISTRATION
Normal registration ends at 23:59 BST on Monday 14 June 2021
We’ll be using the Twitter handle #BESMacro2021. Join in!
