What do we actually know about coastal wetland ecology? Not as much as we should
Over the last 30 years, our understanding of the factors that control the structure and function of coastal wetlands has shifted from a narrative that focused on bottom-up control to one that explicitly includes top-down factors. And yet, our current understanding of how these systems function is still far from complete.
Here, I outline what we actually know about coastal wetland ecology and the knowledge gaps that remain.
