International perspective
The experiences of the Global South differ to those of the North, says Arildo Dias.
The number of local initiatives to promote diversity in science and fight against systemic racism have grown since 2020. However, we should pursue coordinated action and sharing of experiences among these initiatives.
The contexts in which systemic racism manifests differ. An ecologist from the Global South will face extra barriers that an ecologist in the Global North will not, even if both are from minorities under-represented in science.
The REED Ecological Network wants to listen to, share experiences with and help other similar initiatives.
We’d be interested in finding ways for ecologists from different parts of the world to talk about their experience and the ways they’ve found to promote diversity and inclusion in science.
